Solar farm ready to get green light

Plans for a solar farm which would power thousands of homes are expected to be given the go-ahead by planning chiefs.

Cambourne Energy Ltd has applied to Milton Keynes Council to build the 14 solar panel farm on land north of Littlewood Farm in Hanslope.

The proposed farm would generate enough electricity to power 3636 homes each year. It is thought that the farm would take 6 months to build, which would mean if permissions was granted at the development control committee meeting which takes place at the civic offices, the site could open as soon as Spring 2015.

Planning officers have recommended the plans are approved.

Although they accept the proposed development would have an adverse effect on the character of the nearby landscape, they believe the presence of the M1 has already led to a deterioration of rural surroundings and that benefits are considered to outweigh the identified harm.

Jude Cook, Project Manager from Camborne Energy said:

"Seventy five of attendees at a local exhibition about the proposals support the application and we are keen to see the local area benefit from the solar farm".
