DECC launches Electricity Demand Reduction pilot project

The Department for Energy and Climate Change has launched its Electricity Demand Reduction pilot project. The EDR pilot offers financial support for organisations to install energy efficiency equipment. The intention is that this would reduce the organisation’s electricity demand at peak times.

Examples of improvements include replacing bulbs with LEDs and improving the equipment within motors and pumps. In turn the organisation would be able to compete more effectively within the GB Capacity Market.

Successful organisations will be selected through an auction selection process. Those who register and qualify, will be able to take part in the auction. They can then bid in kW savings from their proposed projects. Those who are successful will represent best value for money.

The first pilot auction has a worth of £10 million and is scheduled for January 2015.
