City's award winning electric buses

At the National Transport Awards the Milton Keynes's Electric Bus project has been identified for Excellence in Technology.

The Milton Keynes project has won the accolade as one of the most innovative transport projects for 2014.

There are 7 diesel buses on Route 7 in Milton Keynes with 8 fully electric buses in a 5-year-trial. The aim of the project is to demonstrate the commercial viability of low carbon transport. The trial uses wireless charging technology to ensure buses can run non-stop throughout a working day. In using wireless charging it means for the first time electric buses will be able to operate in the same way as a vehicle powered by diesel.

An electric bus is a great asset for Milton Keynes and the council with Arriva and other project partners trust this recognition gives others the confidence to take forward innovative projects as Milton Keynes does.

The award is on top of the award by the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership where the electric bus was highly commended in its contribution to sustainable travel.
