Green Energy's fantastic customer service goes one step further

Independent green and renewable electricity supplier Green Energy UK is so confident in its customer service model and staff that it is offering a £25 reward to any customer who believes the company has let them down and broken its customer promise. The company has also paid its second annual loyalty bonus to customers who have been with the company for three years or more. The utility industry does not have a brilliant reputation for customer service, but Green Energy UK is bucking this trend by winning customer service awards for the outstanding and unique way it treats its customers.

Doug Stewart, Green Energy UK chief executive explains: “In any walk of life you want to be treated with respect. When you call a company you want to speak to a person and not have to go through a complicated menu to do that. We don’t have push button menus or hold music. Our service team aim to answer all calls in less than 30 seconds, and we deal with the vast majority of queries there and then. It’s just one of the small details we take care of to make life easier.”

Green Energy UK is fully accountable to its customers, most of who take up the offer of 400 free shares when they sign up as customers of the company. As well as owning a part of the company, customer shareholders can turn up to Green Energy UK’s AGM and put questions and ideas to the board. Green Energy UK is the first and only company to offer customers free shares in its business.

Stewart concludes: “It is radical, but having shareholders who are also customers keeps you on your toes. From the beginning we wanted to bring new clean electricity generators to market, and run a totally open and transparent business: the free share offer supports this.
